Influenza has been a major global problem for centuries. Although vaccination can reduce the health and economic consequences of an influenza epidemic, current vaccines are far from perfect.

Many research teams around the world have worked to create an effective universal influenza vaccine, spending hundreds of millions in research and development. Yet, so far, no breakthrough has been achieved.

FLUniversal is a real opportunity to create a truly universal influenza vaccine that will set the new gold standard for rapid and affordable vaccine development. The optimism is supported by the next-generation vaccine technology with promising proof of concept for universal protection, an advanced cell-based manufacturing system, and the exceptionally strong scientific teams of this consortium.

The FLUniversal team convened in Siena, Italy, at VisMederi. Attendees included Alessandro Manenti (Chief Development Officer), Giulia Piccini (Project Director), Emanuele Montomoli (Founder and Chief Scientific Officer), and Claudia Trombetta (University of Siena).
