As part of the Florence Health Institute program, the VisMederi Foundation, that’s part of the VisMederi Group, greeted a group of Kent State University students in the Toscana Life Sciences Foundation auditorium on June 3rd.
This yearly meeting has become a well-known part of the Florence Summer Institute, which has been going on since 2014 and is open to students from many other colleges. The program gives participants a chance to get real-world experience in addition to their academic studies by encouraging them to work with professionals and specialists in the healthcare and scientific fields.
Giusy Caprara, a researcher at VisMederi, and Veronica Cannucci, the Administrative Manager of the VisMederi Foundation, welcomed the group. It was made up of students, the Director of the Kent State University Florence Center, Prof. Fabrizio Ricciardelli, and two U.S. faculty members, Prof. Christopher Woolverton and Prof. Jennifer Biggs.
The students, who are studying public health, received a guided tour of VisMederi’s labs on the Toscana Life Sciences site in the morning. The visit, which was led by Giusy Caprara, gave an overview of how the lab works and what research is currently going on there.
After the tour, Veronica Cannucci presented a talk about how infectious diseases have affected people throughout history and how important vaccines have been in making life better. Her talk also analyzed the close ties between the city of Siena and the life sciences sector, showing how the area has helped make discoveries that are known around the world.
“The VisMederi Foundation strongly believes in the importance of education and in giving students chances to talk to people in the research sector. We need projects like this to convey information, get people interested, and illustrate how important our city has been to the growth of life sciences, – states Veronica Cannucci – We are proud to help the next generation by giving them a real and useful experience in our field.”
This event showed that the VisMederi Foundation is still dedicated to reaching out to scientists and helping young people improve in their studies and careers.
